Kayak Instructor Level 2 Certification Workshop Information

Course Overview

This course will be a 3 days of information and skill refinement. Throughout the workshop you will be required to demonstrate basic knowledge and ability to give basic kayak instruction. The ICW is designed to teach you how to teach kayaking to others, as well as techniques to evaluate proper paddling skills—not how to kayak. As a way to familiarize yourself with the skills you will be teaching, it is beneficial to participate in a full ACA Introduction to Kayaking course before coming to the ICW. Without prior paddling practice time it will be challenging to pass this workshop. This will be a fast pace and exciting 3 days!

Fundamentally, we expect that paddlers should have basic paddling skills before presenting themselves for evaluation as Instructor Candidates. While you will have time to prepare in the topics you will present, you should be prepared to teach any topic in a Level 1 Introduction to Kayaking Sample Skills Course. The more practice you have, the better chance you will have to receive certification.

To help you better prepare you will need to review the ACA Instructor’s Manual that includes the manual and other resources relevant to the workshop. Review and practice of these materials will be helpful as you start your path to becoming an ACA Instructor. I will also send some video links that will be helpful to see how these skills are taught. Combining these videos with some practice skills before the course should set you up to be successful in the program.

An ACA membership and Safety Education & Instruction Council (SEIC) membership is required for certification. ACA membership is required at the start of the course ($40). Membership to SEIC is $25 and is required if you become certified. All instructors need to have First Aid and CPR certification for your instructor certification to be valid.

If you have any questions please contact me at acacoach@riverwindkayak;com

I look forward to having you in the course.

Attendance at all sessions is required.
